Though in the South, Livingston Press is not always of the South, for we publish a good deal of contemporary fiction from national authors who push the fictional envelope either in form or in theme. We have, for instance, published several works of linked stories, what we call storynovels. We have published a comic novel in heroic couplets. We have published science-fiction that goes beyond the genre, and we have published gay male fiction. We have published novels of Jewish Interest, a novel of Native American Interest, and a story collection set in Maoist China, written by a native author. We also have a small line of African-American non-fiction slave narratives from this area. Livingston Press publishes ten new works of fiction a year; we also sponsor the Tartt First Fiction Award, which is now in its sixth year. This award is named after Ruby Pickens Tartt, who was an indefatigable worker for Civil Rights in this area. The award publishes a first time author's story collection.
